Silk
Blends
Silk is an extremely fine and lustrous fiber. The shine and look of
silk makes it one of the most sought after fabric for apparels. Silk can
be blended with many other fibers to make clothing of various strength
and finish. Silk noil is the commonly used fabric whenever silk is
required to be blended with any of the natural fibers. By using this,
blending and spinning is made possible as all the fibers are of staple
length. The property of the resultant fabric depends on the ratio on
which they are blended.
Some of the common types of silk blends include:
- Silk & Cotton: In cases where silk is blended with
cotton, silk endows a soft, smooth hand, lightness of weight with
strength, comfort resilience and good color possibilities. Cotton
offers body and lesser cost.
- Silk & Linen: Silk is very rarely mixed or blended
with linen. Both silk and linen provide strength and absorbency. The
blend also contributes to the luxurious and classy look. Silk aids
in reducing weight and adds good hand. Linen provides body of the
fabric.
- Silk & Wool: Silk & wool are generally blended on
a worsted system, thereby producing a fine, strong yarn. These
fabrics are resilient, durable, lightweight and drape well. The
fabrics also have a soft sheen. Silk and wool blends are mostly used
in apparel like suits, shawls, stoles, etc.
