Charmeuse
Silk
Charmeuse is a popular, lightweight fabric widely used
for wedding dresses and prom dresses. It is typically made of silk or
polyester.
Charmeuse is made with a satin weave which is soft, yet supple and
drapes beautifully. The fabric is woven with a satin weave, where the
warp threads cross over three or more of the backing threads. The front
side of the fabric has a satin finish, lustrous and reflective, and the
back has a dull finish.
Uses of Charmeuse Silk :
- Charmeuse is mostly used for loose-fitting, drapery, bridal
gowns, slinky evening wear, blouses and dresses, nightgowns and
lingerie.
- It is also extensively used to make vibrant coverlet quilt and
pillowcases, which accentuate any room with their elegant design and
reversible bright colors.
- Silk sheets, comforters, duvets, and silk robes are some other
items crafted out of charmeuse.
The fabric is little difficult to sew because it is very slippery.
It does not unravel much. Charmeuse silk is little expensive and elegant
soft silk.
Available in multiple shades, charmeuse silk is popular for its
softness and sheen. The silk can be blended or dyed to make various
attractive dress materials. The fabric is also available in printed
designs.
